FAQ
How should I store my popcorn?
The best way to store Riehle’s Select popcorn kernels is in a sealed container or bag in a cool, dry place, such as a pantry or cabinet away from heat and moisture. Exposure to air can dry popcorn out so it will not pop well, or add moisture so the kernels become too wet to pop. To keep popped popcorn fresh and crisp for a day or two, store it in an airtight plastic or glass container.
What popcorn popper should I use?
Riehle’s Select Popcorn pops well in most stovetop popcorn poppers or in at least a six-quart pan with a lid. Our Gourmet Popcorn and Specialty Gourmet Popcorn also work in many electric popcorn poppers. The Gourmet Popcorn line generally performs well in standard air poppers. The Specialty Gourmet Popcorn line (our smaller-kernel and hulless popcorn varieties) may work in some air poppers but not others, because the lightweight kernels can blow out before they pop. We rely on customer feedback to learn which air poppers work best for hulless popcorn and other small-kernel varieties.
What does hulless popcorn mean?
The hull of a popcorn kernel is the seed coat, and all popcorn has one. Our hulless popcorn varieties are very small-kernel gourmet popcorns that pop into tender pieces with very little hull remaining. After popping, most of the hull breaks up, leaving a small, tender piece of popcorn that many people find more comfortable to eat than traditional large yellow popcorn.

Which popcorn variety is best for kettle corn or caramel corn?
All of our popcorn pops up as a butterfly-shaped popcorn. Most popcorn used for kettle corn or caramel corn that forms a round “ball” after stirring is a mushroom-shaped popcorn, which we do not currently offer. If you are making kettle corn or caramel corn at home and do not mind the popcorn breaking into smaller pieces, any of our varieties will work and taste great.
What kind of oil should I use for popping popcorn?
Riehle’s Select Popcorn will work with most common popping oils, including coconut oil, canola oil, sunflower oil, vegetable oil, or your preferred cooking oil. The type of oil you choose is a personal preference based on flavor and nutritional needs.
How do I pop the Gourmet Popcorn?
For step-by-step popping instructions for our Gourmet Popcorn and Specialty Gourmet Popcorn, please see our Customer Service page or follow the directions that come with your popcorn popper.
What is the shelf life of popcorn?
When stored in tightly sealed containers in a cool, dry place, our popcorn kernels typically have a shelf life of a year or longer. Always check the date on microwave popcorn packages, as the added oil and ingredients give those products a specific expiration date.
What kind of nutrition is in your popcorn?
Popcorn is a whole grain snack, and we provide nutrition facts for each Riehle’s Select popcorn product on its individual product page. If you do not yet see a nutrition facts label or image for the variety you are interested in, please contact us and we will gladly provide the nutritional information.
